Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Following are some Frequently Asked Questions about Holden Disinfecting Solutions' disinfection and sanitizing services.
Why is Holden Disinfecting Solutions different than using a janitorial service?
Holden Disinfecting Solutions provides Disinfection Services, and we use "Hospital Grade" Disinfectants. The US EPA Performance Standard for Disinfection requires a significantly higher level of reduction: 99.999% reduction/kill (6-log reduction). US EPA registered Disinfectants are identified as a higher level of pathogen reduction.
What is the difference between cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting?
is done with water, a cleaning product, and scrubbing. Cleaning does not kill bacteria, viruses or fungi ("germs"). Cleaning products are used to remove germs, dirt, and other organic material by washing them down the drain. Sanitizing and Disinfecting
products are chemicals that work by killing germs. Disinfectants kill more germs than sanitizers. In most cases, a cleaning product is used first, then followed by either sanitizing or disinfection of the surface when necessary.
We are currently using Lysol, bleach and other cleaners. Are we doing an adequate job?
Those products are considered cleaners and sanitizers. Bleach is both a disinfectant and sanitizer and has several limitations, including that it cannot be used on electronics and has affixation, stain and discoloration issues which limits wide-scale use. Holden Disinfecting Solutions is a professional commercial grade service utilizing High-Level Disinfectants, approved by the CDC, for disinfection that kills SARS-CoV-2
(the coronavirus that causes COVID-19
) on surfaces.
How do we prepare for Disinfection and what steps should be taken after Disinfection?
Holden will provide a Pre-Treatment Checklist to assist customers in preparation for disinfection. After disinfection, please follow our Post-Treatment Care Guide which goes into detail on the proper way to maintain the disinfectant, including recommendations to extend the disinfectant's effectiveness and ultimately the protection of your facilities.
Does Holden Disinfecting Solutions Disinfect phones, electronics and computers?
Yes! We disinfect electronic, computer and phone equipment as part of our service. The electrostatic and atomizers sprayers' mist does not harm electronic, computer and phone equipment.
How long does it take before we can re-enter a building or vehicle after it's been disinfected?
Manufacturers' guidelines are a minimum of 1 hour for offices, homes and other enclosed spaces, and 15 minutes for vehicles.
Does Holden Disinfecting Solutions provide janitorial services prior to Disinfection?
We typically do not, but we will if required. We ask all of our customers to prepare the spaces to be disinfected, including cleaning, putting away coffee cups, coffee makers and other kitchen items, wiping down surfaces, cleaning desks and removing papers, so that the spaces are ready for disinfection when we mobilize.
Should we wait until we have a COVID-19 case?
No! Holden strongly recommends that our Disinfection Services be deployed before any cases develop and a contamination occurs. We do not want to expose our staff to areas that are already contaminated with the SARS-CoV-2
coronavirus. We will, however, perform emergency Disinfection Services of contaminated spaces on an as-needed basis for our customers.
What are the Best Management Practices Holden is recommending?
Holden has engaged and regularly consults with an AIPC-Certificated Infection Prevention and Control Specialist whose advice is succinct and direct: "Implement a frequent routine Cleaning, Sanitization and Disinfection program, and use all of the weapons in the arsenal to fight the SARS-CoV-2
coronavirus to prevent the spread of COVID-19
